Kim – The Polymath (Album)

This came out about 7 months ago, but I’m just now coming across it thanks to great ears of Twitter.

Kim‘s raspy voice and tone sounds like a mixture of Schoolboy Q, Kanye West and Gilbere Forte. He has a heavy Jay Z and Kanye influence in his cadence and you can definitely hear the Kanye influence in the beats, with certain instruments and sounds, as well the excellent contemporary samples used, all of which were produced by Jove Beats. Having listened to this a couple times through, I found the Orlando/Miami rapper to be rather adept at reviving nostalgic lyrics in a refreshing manner. A few times, I found myself rewinding back a track to catch an old Busta Rhymes lyric from an A Tribe Called Quest song. All in all, I really enjoy this album, I look at it as a great homage to some of the finest artists of our time from a rather talented new one. I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more work from this guy.
