Art: Mreeuh Chang – “A Thinking Man”

On Twitter the other day, I came across a photograph of this painting – by chance – and it reminded me why the Internet is such an amazing tool. With her (@MREEUH) consent, I HAD to share it with this community because I think it’s nothing short of amazing.

Now that you’ve been blown away like I was, let’s acquaint ourselves with the artist.

Via the bio on her website,

Mreeuh (rhymes with Korea) Chang is a 22-year-old tattoo artist, combinatorial creative, closet writer, painter and illustrator. She was conceived shortly after her parents immigrated to Atlanta, GA where she grew up. Although she demonstrated exceptional creative abilities from a young age, she did not start making art in a traditional sense until her late teens. From birth, she has been artistically precocious; she could use scissors before she could walk, draw before she understood English, and knew how to tattoo before she learned to operate a vehicle. Lacking formal art training, she began painting inside of a tattoo shop she frequented as a minor.

Her work explores a wide range of techniques and themes including women, wildlife motifs, geometric patterns, city architecture, prose, Eastern sciences, politics of culture, ancient iconography, divination systems and sex. While she is still developing her own personal style or styles, her work consistently includes dense pattern and layering that reveals a very active imagination. She has been featured in group and solo exhibitions around the country as well as featured in a documentary and a few online publications.

Prints and other goods are directly available through her online shop.

Tattoo appointments can be arranged via e-mail, through her contact form.

Her commissioned originals start at $300 and go up depending on size and detail, which can be shipped worldwide.
