To avoid what could potentially be future lawsuits over the sonic likeness between his summer smash, “Blurred Lines” to Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up”, Robin Thicke, along with T.I. and Pharrell take the offensive route and sue the Gaye family and Bridgeport Music. The artists commented, saying they have “the utmost respect for and admiration of Marvin Gaye, Funkadelic and their musical legacies,” but must “reluctantly file this action in the face of multiple adverse claims from alleged successors in interest to those artists.”
